How the holidays work
Malaysia has national public holidays plus state holidays; this page lists the main national ones. Substitute days follow each state’s weekend: some states, such as Kelantan and Terengganu, take Friday and Saturday as the weekend.
Islamic holidays such as Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji depend on moon sighting or calculation, and Deepavali is not a public holiday in Sarawak; future dates here are calculated, and the government announcement is authoritative.
Holidays are calculated from current law and announced arrangements and are for reference only; the local government’s announcement is authoritative. Select a date to open it in the calendar.
