How the holidays work
Taiwan’s national holidays are set by the Act for the Implementation of Commemorative Days and Holidays. When a holiday falls on a Saturday, the preceding working day is given off; when it falls on a Sunday, the following working day is given off. Lunar New Year holidays that fall on a weekend are also carried over.
Each year the Directorate-General of Personnel Administration publishes the government office calendar for the following year, occasionally adding bridge holidays with a make-up Saturday. Most private employers follow it, but the Labor Standards Act and individual employment terms decide what applies to a given employee.
Holidays are calculated from current law and announced arrangements and are for reference only; the local government’s announcement is authoritative. Select a date to open it in the calendar.
